Moon Rituals

Updated: Jan 15, 2022

I love a ritual or ceremony, a routine that connects me to nature.

Moon rituals or ceremonies are exciting, magical and help us connect spiritually.

The full moon is the most mystical period of the lunar month. The growing moon's energy has reached its peak; everything in nature is saturated with its power.

Next full moon is on Sunday 28th March: Worm Moon

Native Americans called this last full moon of winter the worm moon after the worm trails that would appear in the newly thawed ground. Other names include chaste moon, death moon, crust moon and sap moon, after the tapping of the maple trees.

Full Moons are the time when the moon is literally in full bloom- at its highest potential.

The full moon is when the moon and the sun are opposite each other, bringing out the yin and yang in all of us.

It rules our emotions, and the beautiful bright glow of the full moon shines its light on everything that's hidden within. It can stir up emotions and fear.

But how we can prepare.

There are many rituals and practices that turn the Full Moon's power in your favour to protect yourself from negativity, allowing her to do her job of clearing out energies that no longer serve us to make way for the new.

The full moon is a time for self-love, meditation, yoga, and manifestation to balance the energy.

To prepare, the day before (Saturday 27th) have a tidy up. This will help all the positive energy flow.

On Sunday, resist the urge to do any domestic chores. hooray! I hear you say.

Allow any anger or annoyance to wash over you. Write it down and release it.

Here are a few ritual ideas to try.

Tune into the lunar energy with complete love and trust. Ask for help and guidance and give thanks before and after each ritual.

The beautiful thing about rituals, especially those related to the moon, is that they invite you to get quiet. They ask you to plant seeds of intention and be one with the energy of our environment and free from distractions.

Spiritual Tools

Cleansing can be done with smudge sticks such as sage, reiki symbols, visualisations and thoughts, herbs, ritual candles and flame, crystals (for light-workers), charged water, salt, and many other spiritual tools depending on your practice.

Ritual One

How to Power Up - Charge any personal item with Lunar energy; this can be jewellery, crystals, anything that you will be able to have with you daily. Leave the item on the windowsill under the moonlight. I usually leave all my crystal in the earth to fully receive full lunar energy.

Express your gratitude to the moon for sharing her energy.

Ritual Two

How to Release - Write down all negative habits, illness, and aliments on a piece of paper and ask the moon for her help and support. The next day, burn the piece of paper (safely) using a candle. Visualise the negativity leaving your body as the paper burns. Thank the moon.

Ritual Three

How to use for Cleansing - Place a glass of water on the windowsill under the moonlight and ask the moon to share her power. In the morning, drink the water on an empty stomach, visualising each sip purifying, renewing, and filling your body with energy.

Ritual Four

How to Fulfil your wishes - write down your wishes on a piece of paper in the present tense; make it positive, specific & clear.

eg. Instead of "I want my dream home," Say "I am happy in my sea-side home, where I can walk barefoot daily across the beautiful sandy beach to the turquoise ocean and feel the sun on my skin and a warm breeze through my hair."

Put the note on the windowsill under the moonlight. In the morning, hide your note until your wish is fulfilled, then burn it. Thanking the universe.

Ritual Five

The Bath ritual -

There are great benefits to taking a cleansing bath before a new moon ritual and after a full moon ritual. Here are some tips to help you proceed and decide what you need:

Use a handful or two of salt (not table salt); sea salt or even Epsom salt are recommended. Toss it into a tub of warm water.

Add in some lavender salts or drops.

Light some soothing scented candles or incense.

Play some music if you want or have total silence.

Add whatever it is that relaxes and centres you. Focus on your breath.

Take time to meditate, focus your mind, invoke the goddess or spirit, and connect with the divine.

Hold the Moonstone in your hands and say out loud, "I program this crystal to connect me with the energy of the Full Moon to recharge and rejuvenate my energy." After programming your crystal, place it in the water or over your heart.

Now that you have set the intention for your full moon cleansing bath, soak in the water for 11-21 minutes. While soaking, visualize the shimmering white water as an embodiment of the moon's bright energy. Feel this powerful energy soaking into every cell of your being, raising your energy to be as bright as the full moon. Bring to mind one intention that you want to supercharge, and direct this energy to your intention.

When you are finished soaking in your full moon bath, let the water drain and take with it anything that was holding you back from manifesting your intention.

Stare at the moon. Appreciate it. Send love to her. She will send it right back. She's amazing like that. Take a moonlight walk. Allow the lunar energy to recharge you for the months ahead. I also highly recommend doing this barefoot on the sand or ground… even if you are just sitting outside. Connecting with the actual Earth is beyond healing.

Take a moon bath

If you can, get outside and let the moonlight touch your skin. Just like our bodies need the Vitamin D from sunlight, many people believe that we also benefit from moonlight.

Imagine your body absorbing the energy of the full moon, and bask in it for a few minutes while you set some intentions.

I will become the greatest version of myself.

I am becoming the greatest version of myself….

I AM the greatest version of myself.

Love, light & many blessing.

I hold a full moon gong ceremony each month Book online.
